Project „Bees Club“ at the Waldorf School in Aalen

Bees are like children – without them we have no future.

That's why we were immediately enthusiastic when we heard about the "Bees Club" project. Over the winter months, a beekeeper's hut with beehives and a canopy for the beehives was built in the Waldorf Campus school garden. Three bee colonies then moved in at the end of March.

Once a week, the pupils will learn about the fascinating world of bees. They will learn how to handle them properly, look after the bee colonies and carry out all beekeeping activities.

Over the next few years, the Bees Club aims to become financially independent by selling honey, but the honey yield is not the main focus. The bee colonies are allowed to swarm and build their own combs. They are kept in the way that suits their nature.

The Bees Club will also deal with wild bees, flowering plants, ecological relationships and other exciting topics. The focus here is on enabling pupils to experience nature for themselves.

There will be a three-week "Bee Week" in the second grade, in which the children will spend every morning with bees.

Of course, financial resources are needed to realise this bee workshop and set up a school apiary. As we think this project is so great, we at WP Lebensmitteltechnik RIEHLE GmbH are supporting the bee workshop with 500 euros and hope that it will be a success.
