Werner & Pfleiderer awarded the “iba award” for innovation

Tamm, 20 September 2018 – The new industrial THERMADOR TH thermal oil oven from Werner & Pfleiderer Industrial Bakery Technologies won the “iba award” for innovation at the iba 2018, the leading international trade fair for the baking industry. Every three years, an independent jury of scientists, practitioners and members of the trade press presents this coveted award to outstanding technical innovation for the industrial production of baked goods.

In his ceremonial address, Prof. Dr. Thomas Becker of the Technical University of Munich praised the THERMADOR TH as a “masterpiece of German engineering”. The jury was convinced by the clever idea of combining well-known technologies in such an innovative way that a new level of quality and technology could be reached. Dieter Knost, Managing Director of Werner & Pfleiderer Industrial Bakery Technologies (WP IB), and company owner Jürgen Horstmann accepted the award at the trade fair stand of the Zentralverband des Deutschen Bäckerhandwerks (Central Association of the German Bakery Trade) in Munich. “Our motivation is to develop highly efficient technology for our customers, enabling them to produce the greatest possible variety of baking items of the highest quality,” said Jürgen Horstmann.

The THERMADOR TH is a so-called continuous tunnel oven, in which all variations of breads and bread rolls can be baked. The first model of the newly developed oven is currently being installed at a large industrial baker in Northern Europe and will be operational by the end of the year. The oven's dimensions are impressive: it is 37.5 m long, 3.5 m wide, 2.8 m high, and can bake up to 11,000 breads of 0.6 to 1.3 kg per hour.

This year, there were 50 submissions to the rich-in-tradition iba award. Of these, 17 solutions reached the preselection stage and were then critically reviewed by a high-caliber jury. The WP BAKERYGROUP trade fair stand measuring over 1,100 2  also showcased a module of the THERMADOR TH. Only six solutions convinced and were chosen as prize winners.
